Trainline and Glastonbury encourages festival-goers to take the train

Trainline and Glastonbury Festival are partnering up to encourage festival-goers to help the planet and book a train in advance to Worthy Farm this summer.

The partnership is part of Trainline’s ‘I came by train’ campaign, which aims to showcase rail travel as a planet-friendly alternative to taking the car.

To lure rail customers in, Trainline says it is offering up to 26% savings, on average, for those planning their trip to Glastonbury eight to twelve weeks ahead of travel.

Rail ticketing firm Trainline delved into the cost of tickets to Castle Cary, the closest station to the festival, in 2023.

By booking between eight and twelve weeks in advance, travellers last year saved an average of £36 (26%), compared those booking one to four weeks in advance who saved just £12 (11%).

According to Trainline, the UK needs to increase the amount it travels by rail by at least 30% in the next decade if it is to hit the 2050 net zero goals set by the Climate Change Committee.

Glastonbury organiser, Emily Eavis, said: “As always, we’re asking everyone to think about the impact of their journey to the farm for this year’s festival. Taking the train is one of the most environmentally-conscious ways to get here, so we’ve partnered with Trainline to help make it as easy and convenient for everyone making the journey by rail.”

Sakshi Anand, VP growth and UK GM, for Trainline, said “We know taking the train is less polluting than travelling by car, but festival-goers can be kind on their wallet as well as the environment by booking their trains in advance.

“Our data shows the earlier you book the better value tickets can be secured with savings of up to 26% at that eight to twelve week sweet spot. We’d encourage anyone looking to travel to Glastonbury to consider taking the train and book as early as possible.”
