British Gas extends solar panel presence into Scotland

British Gas is partnering with one of the biggest solar panel installers in Scotland as it looks to meet the growing demand for solar panel and battery storage technology from homeowners.

The partnership with Forster Group will allow nationwide installation of the tech needed to enable British Gas to offer solar power and battery technology to any eligible customer in Scotland.

British Gas launched its solar offering last year in England and Wales with Effective Home.

The new partnership with Forster Group, which provides solar services to one in five of all new homes in Scotland, will boost the number of accredited engineers that British Gas works with by 55%.

Households in Scotland could save between 75 and 90% off the cost of their electricity bill by installing solar panels, according to the energy firm.

British Gas Homes Index research revealed that more than two-fifths (42%) of people said they were considering installing solar panels in the next two years to tackle climate change and save on bills.

Low carbon homes director Susan Wells said: “We are committed to delivering the right products and solutions to help people cut carbon in their homes and save money on their bills in a way that works for them through British Gas and Hive.

“We’re seeing our customers get more engaged with the benefits of solar energy, which is why we are extending our capabilities and partnering with Forster Group. Forster’s impressive track record in Scotland will allow us to meet the growing demand for solar and provide customers with expert advice and installations.”

Last year, British Gas launched a money-saving initiative to encourage customers to use green power and reduce the need for fossil fuel energy over the summer.
