The Body Shop has become the world’s first global beauty brand to achieve 100% vegan product formulations across all of its ranges.
The entire product portfolio has been certified by the Vegan Society and will now feature the organisation’s official Vegan Trademark.
Over 4,000 ingredients had to be validated in order to ensure over 1,000 The Body Shop products across its skincare, body care, haircare, makeup and fragrance ranges were able to be certified.
The beauty retailer first set the ambitious target for itself in 2021, when 60% of its products were approved by the Vegan Society.
The Body Shop chief executive officer Ian Bickley said the retailer has “worked tirelessly” to achieve its target.

“We were the first beauty company to fight against animal testing in cosmetics… [and] the first major global beauty brand to use cruelty-free musk in our fragrances,” he continued.

Announcing the accreditation, The Body Shop has launched a ‘Not Yes! Another vegan’ campaign which leans fully into the eyerolls often associated with veganism, animal rights and sustainability news.
The Vegan Society director of business development Chantelle Adkins commented: “We hope that this significant step sets a global standard for other beauty brands to follow and inspires further change to reduce animal use and exploitation across the industry.”
With over one in ten young people saying that ‘vegan’ is an important factor in their health and beauty purchase decisions, the vegan cosmetics industry is predicted to reach $24 billion by 2028.
Last month, the brand launched a limited-edition version of a “Forever Against Animal Testing” t-shirt.
