Business leaders call for a ‘roadmap for a transition’ ahead of Cop28

Over 2,000 UK business leaders are calling for a “roadmap for a transition [to net zero] ahead of Cop28.

In an open letter sent to prime minister Rishi Sunak yesterday the business leaders are also calling for the UK to regain its “global climate leader status”.

The letter organised by Business Declares stated: “Sustainable business is better business – both socially and in terms of revenue.

“To maintain a thriving sector that meets society’s needs, we need the government to provide a long-term vision, clear policies and a roadmap for a transition,” it added.

“This will enable us to gather resources for any required investment, and train up a workforce to do what’s needed to ensure we remain a successful, investable, and stable business environment in the near future.”

The letter calls for all UK political parties to scale up renewable investment; restoring nature and creating a national plan with targets; and end fossil fuel development in the UK.

Some of the business leaders handed over the letter in person including Tridos Bank director marketing and communications Zoe Ruthven.

The letter follows business leaders gathering in Central London, dressed in business attire, demonstrating support for government action on nature and climate.
