Walkers rolls out paper multipack bags to all supermarkets

Walkers is rolling out paper multipack bags across its Baked brand to all UK supermarkets following a successful trial exclusively at Tesco.

The PepsiCo crisp brand is set to eliminate 180 tonnes of virgin plastic year from outer packaging in its latest move and the new Walkers packaging can be recycled with other paper in home recycling bins.

PepsiCo sustainable packaging lead Gareth Callan said the FMCG company is “constantly innovating new ways” to remove virgin plastic in packaging across all brands by 2030.

“At this scale, the new Walkers packaging will deliver a huge reduction in virgin plastic, while also helping to lower our carbon footprint,” Callan added.

Earlier this year, PepsiCo trialled new ‘bagless’ multipacks across its rice cake brand, Snack A Jacks, which use 86% less plastic when compared with the previous design.

At the time, Callen said that the new bagless design is one of they ways the brand is “exploring to reduce virgin fossil plastic” across its portfolio.
